Staff were incredibly attentive and nice. Even with the language barrier they went above and beyond using Google Translate to explain the courses of our dinners and breakfasts, as well as information about the town. The hotel was slightly out of town (15mins walk) but they have a shuttle that was basically on demand. We wanted to go into town for the night and they dropped and picked us up at our desired time. The property is also tucked at the base of a mountain which made for a beautiful location. Overall a relaxing stay and a highlight of my 3 week trip around Japan.

An excellent, "easy" introduction to a traditional ryokan, with many accomodations for first timers like us. Family made a side trip from Kyoto for something different than the 3 big cities and this inn gave us a wonderful, different experience with excellent service and great food. The kimono and yukata rental was nice added flair, the room very comfortable (NB. no polarized outlets), and the dinner and breakfast fantastic. Even though translation apps had to be used frequently, the service was universally polite, attentive, and, most of all, friendly and helpful. We had a great time!

Nestled in a serene setting, the hotel exudes a quiet elegance that immediately made us feel at ease. Every corner seemed thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere was nothing short of magical. The staff were beyond accommodating; gracious, attentive, and genuinely kind. Each interaction felt personal and sincere, and their dedication to making our stay memorable was evident in every detail. We’ve traveled extensively throughout Japan last week and we can confidently say this was the most exceptional team we’ve encountered. The culinary experience was a highlight. Both breakfast and dinner were beautifully curated, with each dish a delightful journey for our tastebuds. The flavors were exquisite, the presentation artful, and the care that went into each meal was palpable. It felt like dining in a dream. Our private onsen reservation was handled with such precision and care that we truly felt like royalty. The tranquil setting, the seamless coordination, and the attention to detail made it an unforgettable experience. To all the staff at Hotel Tembouen—thank you. You turned our stay into something truly magical. My wife and I are already looking forward to returning and reliving the enchantment all over again.

Th place is amazing. Great service and staff. I wish o could have stayed longer. Worth th stay.
