We had a room with a balcony overlooking the Douro. The hotel is on the south side of the river, almost in the shadow of the Luis 1 bridge, with a gorgeous view of Porto proper. Good bed, pillows, robes and towels. The only real issue was that the room itself was quite small. Nice shower but otherwise a tight bathroom. The staff was universally well-motivated and helpful. I renew my frequent complaint about 'innovations' in light switches and thermostats. The light switches were, for reasons that defy logic, twist knobs. Twist left for toilet, twist right for shower, twist again to turn off. Why? And the thermostat was ridiculous, tiny, confusing graphics on a dim postage stamp sized LED screen. To all hotel architects and designers: the only thing you should concern yourselves with is the ease of the guest. Red arrow for heat up, blue arrow for cold down, fan higher or lower. That's it. Simple buttons. Stop being clever, your guests do not want a tutorial in lights switches and thermostats.

Exceptional property, location, staff. Beautifully designed, well maintained. Extremely friendly and capable team throughout the property. The views and vantage point are picture perfect. Great starting point for exploration or great place to spend time if you aren’t in a rush to go anywhere. Breakfast was great as well. Overall a very special place.
