The magnificent Cumberland Hotel building has been gracing St John Street in Valletta since the late 16th century. Originally built and inhabited as a majestic city palazzo, it was later converted into a hotel that saw its peak in colonial times when Valletta was a hive of activity with British servicemen, travellers and traders flocking its narrow streets. Whilst respecting as much of the original features as possible, the new hotel now offers 22 uniquely styled and individually decorated rooms and suites, making it one of the most attractive boutique accommodation options available in the magnificent city of Valletta. The Cumberland is centrally located just two minutes away from St John's Cathedral, easily accessable via taxi just outside the hotel main door and is surrounded by cultural landmarks, museums, bars and cafes, with everything else that Valletta has to offer within short walking distance. Or you could ride a horse drawn cab or the slow train to enjoy the sites. Taxis and the national hub of the public transport network are just a few minutes away outside the city walls. Other transport options outside of Valletta include ferries to Sliema or to the Three Cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua on the other side of the peninsula.
