Spend your morning amongst the warm and welcoming Chengdu locals at downtown People’s Park. Built in 1911, the park covers a vast area of 112,639 square meters dedicated to heritage preservation and entertainment. There are plenty of scenic spots to enjoy, such as Gold Water Stream, Goldfish Island and the Potted Landscape Garden. Don’t miss the free dance exhibitions and musical performances at Rockery Square! You can also rent a boat to sail on the man-made lake or go fishing by the shore. Chengdu is a city known for its thriving tea culture so make sure to visit the many tea houses inside the park. It is customary among the locals to serve tea in a bowl with a lid, sitting atop of a small saucer. The practice, known as Gaiwan Tea, is believed to date back to the Tang Dynasty. While enjoying your tea, you will definitely be offered a traditional-style ear cleaning by picking masters with a handful of metal tweezers and tongs, feathered sticks, and bamboo scoopers. Don't be intimidated and just give it a go!
