Lovely feel/ atmosphere to hotel - nice but not pretentious. Room was ok, bathrooms could have been a bit cleaner as dust and hairs still on floor. Fridge / cooler didn’t work but was fixed when raised and plug socket nowhere near mirror so couldn’t use mirror to dry hair with hairdryer!!! It’s the little details I guess!!! Thermal Spa was nice…basically indoor and outdoor steam, sauna and hydro jacuzzi. For those staying and purchased access via package the access to spa is limited up to 2hrs each day and only available to uses up to 4pm & subject to a looking available so I’d suggest booking the slot b4 u arrive to avoid disappointment on the 1st day! They do packages with afternoon tea and access which unfortunately made it very busy on the Friday and sadly with some overly loud local guests!! Food menus are the same in both the bar / pub and the brassiere. But I’d recommend booking esp over Friday/ Saturday as it got busy! The food was ok but probably not up to the standard I’d expected. It was basically good pub food at a premium price. Went for lemon sole goujons on 1st night which were so overdone they could have been birds eye fish fingers which was a shame. The ceaser salad the following night was better. Breakfast was nice enough although the sourdough toast was absolutely rock hard but that’s just a minor point. Staff were friendly and attentive but not overly so. all in all a nice couple of nights in a nice location and a nice feel to the place but not exceptional

Beautiful setting, really looks the same as the pictures. However, we felt that the look of the place was more important to the hotel, than how it worked. There were used cotton buds on the floor in the hotel room and the bathroom. Our 8 year olds bed was a fold out camp bed. When we tried to put the air conditioning on, it didn’t work, we later found a pice of paper in the room saying it wasn’t in use. It was a very hot day. The sheets were very starchy and noisy every time you move. Plug sockets for charging only on one side of the bed. The hotel carpets are pretty grubby. No children in the pool from 7pm, didn’t learn that until check in. No changing rooms in the swimming pool: it was like school. Then men’s didn’t even have private shower cubicles. We waited 5 mins before anyone came to seat us and 2 other groups for breakfast at 08.10, we were taken to a table but not given any instructions: do we order at the counter or the table. Waited about 3 mins at the bar to het some water while 4 staff came, went and had a chat. The check in, pool and housekeeping staff were all very professional and helpful. The breakfast was ok: eggs Royale: the breakfast muffin was so tough you couldn’t cut it, gave up on the end and just ate the eggs and salmon. Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time, but I would have expected more from this type of hotel. We’ve been on a 10 day trip to 7 different hotels and they all did much better: even the older, more dated ones.

Nice hotel unfortunately no air conditioning in the old part of the hotel, not working. Experienced a very hot uncomfortable night provided with fan but made no difference.

Outstanding location, amazing staff and the food would not look out of place in a 5 star hotel in London . A must go to place for a few days away.

Great atmosphere, great staff, lovely place to stay.

The hotel is lovely overall, but it feels a little tired in places, with some short-term fixes rather than longer-term solutions. Our room was very warm, and a sign advised calling reception as the air conditioning was decommissioned. When I did, the response felt quite dismissive, focusing on the fact that air-con wasn’t included in the booking. I wasn’t expecting it as a given, just following the instructions for help — especially as we were travelling with a 3-month-old and the room was uncomfortable. It only really felt like help was offered once I mentioned the baby; to their credit, a fan was then found and brought up. It does feel unusual to have air-con units installed but not in use, particularly for a busy 4-star hotel where room rates aren’t low. Even at 22°C outside, the room was too warm, so this is likely to become more of an issue in summer. There were also a few small details that stood out — the TV was unplugged and needed moving to access the socket, and breakfast service was slow. Coffee beyond a basic cafetière at breakfast is chargeable; my latte was over £4, but didn’t taste barista-made and felt out of step with the pricing. I did enjoy my stay, but it was these small, slightly surprising touches that detracted from what could otherwise be a really strong experience.

Nice enough hotel in a lovely location but the rooms aren't all as nice as the website portrays.
