Location was great and Steve was so nice!

We arrived to find the check in time was 2 hours later than we expected so we had to kill time on the hottest day of the year so far. We were also told our booking only covered one breakfast so we had to pay another 9 euros for my son to eat. I don’t know if this was the owner trying to squeeze a few more euros out of us or if this was lack of clarity from Expedia. You expect when you book a room for 2 people with breakfast included that it is for both travellers. You are also expected to leave your room key every time you leave the hotel, never had to do this before but apparently it was for security. The breakfast itself was super basic, just a croissant, half a baguette with butter and jam. There is one coffee machine and it’s serve yourself. We had hoped for a little more of the continental breakfast. Air conditioning is fine if you sit under it but not really strong enough to cool the whole room. The hotel is fine if you’re looking for somewhere to sleep but it’s not somewhere to spend time. It’s probably best if you’re travelling alone or with a partner, I would advise against staying here with a family. Its cheap and in a brilliant location, being 5 mins walk from the Arc and the metro is right outside the from door. It’s good if you want great access to Paris and you’re on a very tight budget. We were a bit disappointed as we had higher expectations, though not sure it would stop us staying there again.

By far this is the worst hotel experience of my life and something that I can only explain as racism/hatred. And shame on Expedia for providing the platform for this hotel. What happened makes me absolutely sick. There’s enough hatred in this world without getting it at a hotel you’re staying at. There are thousands of hotels in Paris, do not for any reason stay here. Unless hatred isn’t a deal breaker for you. Repugnant would be the way I’d describe what happened. And you are complicit Expedia.

We chose Marmotel Etoile for its location, which is excellent—just a short walk from the Arc de Triomphe. The shower was reliably hot, and the room was reasonably clean on arrival. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The room was extremely small, with a very cramped bathroom (approximately 2ft by 6ft) no light, no bath. The space felt poorly designed, with the TV awkwardly positioned, making it difficult to move around the tight space between end of bed & wall. No kettle. No fridge. Safe on the floor. More concerning was the general condition of the room. It felt unfinished and lacked any sense of care or attention. There were visible signs of recent, incomplete work throughout: masking tape left on the floor, pencil markings on the walls, uneven or faulty electrical fittings, and rough plaster patches where previous fixtures had been removed. The bathroom lighting relied solely on the mirror, which was inadequate. The air conditioning remote was absent, the heated towel rail did not function, and the cheap TV offered only a very limited selection of channels, none in English. Overall, the reality did not match the hotel’s promotional images, which appear to present a far more polished experience than what we encountered. While the location is excellent, the condition and presentation of the room were disappointing and fell well below expectations. Was this space ever really meant to be a guests room?
