About the event
It's Christmas Eve in New York's East Village, and struggling filmmaker Mark and songwriter Roger are behind on the rent for their run-down loft.
Over the course of one extraordinary year, they and their circle of friends, including exotic dancer Mimi, drag performer Angel, and former lovers Maureen and Joanne, chase their art, their romances, and their sense of family while living in the shadow of HIV/AIDS and gentrification.
Told through a pulsing rock score and songs that swing from riotous to devastating, RENT captures a community choosing joy and connection in the face of loss.
Loosely inspired by Puccini's La Boheme, it remains a raw, big-hearted portrait of chosen family and the urgency of living for today.
