In the Middle|Chubbynida's Solo Exhibition Information

River City Bangkok proudly presents “In the Middle”, a captivating solo exhibition by the talented artist Chubbynida, who has been a luminary in the art world for over a decade. In this exhibition, she invites viewers on a journey to explore the ‘quicksand of life’ — a state of being stuck that can ensnare anyone, regardless of gender or age, but particularly those navigating the turbulent waters of middle age.

When reality collides with dreams,
When what you once fought so hard to grasp becomes meaningless,
When the safe haven you cherished transforms into a minefield of explosive doubts,
Endless questioning of the past can leave you too paralyzed to step forward into the future
In this exhibition, Chubbynida draws a parallel between our dreams, desires, and obsessions to geometric traps that beckon us to reach for them. Yet, beneath their seductive allure lies a labyrinth of rules and constraints, waiting to consume and suffocate us.
Chubbynida weaves her personal life experiences through her signature lines, sculptures, and uniquely crafted animations. She unveils this cycle through the eyes of a free-spirited alien, who falls from the sky only to become hopelessly enamored with a strange and unfamiliar shape. This obsession nearly consumes the alien, but in the end, it learns to love with balance, finding harmony and equality with the object of its affection.

Chubbynida invites viewers to explore the quicksand in which they find themselves trapped, to embrace the dreams of their youth, confront the bitter taste of disappointment, and move forward with courage.
And most importantly…
‘Please mind the gap between dreams and reality’

About the Artist
Chubbynida
Chubbynida or Chanida Areewatanasombat (Nida) is an illustrator known for her round eyed girl character. After finishing her pursuit of a master's degree in illustration design from Kingston University of London, she returned home with an unstoppable passion for creativity, where she can exercise her skills in animation, paper collages, and art pieces using diverse materials. She breaks all boundaries to unleash her endless imagination, which makes her art more recognizable for its hidden lonely vibe among the simple and colorful lines. Such a creation reflects the solitary lifestyle of people in urban areas that pack with the fragility of emotion.
