Light is a consistent theme in many cultures that is used as a symbol of hope, worship, and regeneration. In this specially choreographed piece, the dancers will regale the audience with stories of various light festivals in the world and punctuate their narrative dance with a pure Odissi dance piece called Hamsadhvani, which means “the cry of the swan”.

Odissi is an ancient form of Indian classical dance that originated in 2nd BC in the Hindu temples of Orissa, Eastern India. This form consists of head and torso motions, as well as complementing gestures and deft foot movements punctuated by well-placed moments of silence.
