Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle | Concert Information

Lirica Arts presents Gioacchino Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (A Little Solemn Mass) – a multi-facted choral masterpiece featuring four operatic soloists, two pianos and a harmonium, often considered to be the most remarkable of the works written during these later years of Italy’s most prolific opera composer.
In exemplification of the cheeky sense of Rossini’s characteristic humour, the Mass is of course neither petite nor solemn but a tour de force that demonstrates the ability of Rossini to weave beautiful melodies (often “operatic” in temperament) with an unfailing sense of colour and drama, and great contrapuntal skill, ranging from hushed intensity to boisterous high spirits, and abounds in the memorable tunes and rhythmic vitality for which the composer of the Barber of Seville and William Tell overture became justly famous.
Led by internationally renowned choral conductor Toh Ban Sheng with his fully professional choral ensemble The Resonance of Singapore featuring soloists:
Teng Xiang Ting, soprano
Anna Koor, alto
Jonathan Charles Tay, tenor
Martin Ng, baritone
Beatrice Lin, piano
Benjamin Lim, piano
Samuel King, harmonium
