Building Strong Frameworks to Hold Chaos | Workshop Information

building-strong-frameworks-to-hold-chaos-01

Often, in participatory theatrical works for children, artmakers struggle between their artistic intents and pursuits, versus the desire to “let go” and allow children to explore and play in an authentic manner.

Here, we invite Sue Giles to share her experience in what it means to Build a Strong Framework to Hold Chaos including some epic disruptions and failures which can inform artistic practices as much as successes do.

After a 20 min sharing, we will invite participation from artists to join in a ‘jamming’ session to come up with a 5 min prototype, facilitated by Sue Giles. These prototypes will be test-bedded by invited children for part of the session. We will observe Sue and the artists work together through impulse and improvisation, design and conceptual exploration to create short performative ideas for children to respond to.

This session is suitable for artists, arts managers and/or producers who are keen to observe a child-centric approach to artmaking in Arts for Young Audiences (A4YA).
