About “Telephones”
New Opera Singapore returns to the live stage with a double bill centered on the telephone and presents a witty commentary of our obsession with devices and a reminder for us to be present in the moments that matter.
Sunday (21 Aug) features 2 family-friendly showings of Menotti's - 'The Telephone' only.
About Menotti's - The Telephone
Gian Carlo Menotti's The Telephone is a romantic comic opera written in New York in 1947. Also known as L 'Amour a trois, the opera revolves around Lucy and Ben, a couple whose marriage proposal is repeatedly thwarted by a telephone. The comedic one-act opera follows Ben’s attempt to propose to Lucy who is obsessed with her telephone. Lucy will be played by Moira Loh / Lara Tan. Ben will be played by Min Seong Kang / Keane Ong.
About Poulenc's - La voix humaine
Subtitled "a musical confession", La voix humane is an operatic monologue about a woman (Elle) who phones her former lover for the last time, the day before he marries another woman. In this final conversation, she attempts to win him back by going from tenderness to passion in a one-act opera for soprano and orchestra composed by Francis Poulenc. Elle will be played by Victoria Songwei Li.
