Clean hotel, helpful staff. Note that the kitchen doesn’t have a toaster or microwave, so your food reheating options are limited to the induction cooktop. They did however have sharp knives (a rarity) so we could easily cut the apple and cheese we bought.
Two things on location: the hotel is not near either train station, and the cabs at the station will gouge you. We got nabbed for €25 euros when we arrived. However when we left, the lovely receptionist called us a cab - and it was €15, even split with another couple. Knowledge is power.
The hotel is close to a picturesque canal, and there’s a bridge across it right at the end of the hotel street. Do NOT cross that bridge and take that route into the centre of town, unless you want to endlessly trudge through the dullest streets in Gent. There aren’t even any bars to stop at for refreshment: I mean Dull. You’ll start to wonder why anyone goes to Ghent. However, at check-in the receptionist will give you a map and highlight an attractive, easy 20-25 minute route that puts you right in the centre of town. This route is perfect and cannot be improved. If someone you love looks at the map and says I see a better way, he is wrong. Throw him in the canal.
