The Island - Pongwe Lodge - Adults Only

We visited The Island at Pongwe as the final stop on our honeymoon to Tanzania and Zanzibar and it was the perfect way to conclude an incredible trip. Set on a coral island just off of Zanzibar, the Island Pongwe is run by the amzaing Michela and her team. The island feels like pure rustic luxury and prides itself on being as sustainable as possible - they source food and materials locally. The service was amazing and we were greeted by the team who showed us to the Villa - a room with an incredible vista of the Indian Ocean. We were also kept company, by the islands dog, Ara, who was so sweet. The team were very helpful in organising a Dhow sailing experience with the local fishermen/sailors. At low tide you are able to walk out towards the reef - just watch out for sea urchins! The food was incredible and tasted so fresh. We were also lucky enough to be treated to a performance by local Masai on our final night. 10/10 - would definitely recommend even at least 1 nights stay here - it's so worth it for this little slice of paradise.

Amazing place, superb staff and fantastic food. A blissful exlscape in Zanzibar and one we wish we had more time to spend there. Raphael, Amani and Sussanna were particularly fantastic members of staff.

Everything was perfect! Amazing service. Incredible sunsets. Delicious food. A heavenly place to unwind. Will be dreaming of a return!

We had an incredible stay at The Pongwe for our honeymoon. Frank and the entire staff were wonderful and made our stay extra special from start to finish, from the room presentation to a special dinner at the end of our trip and fresh flowers to celebrate our new marriage at every meal. The location is lovely, quiet and clean. You feel like you’re transported to a different world when you’re on the island. The food every night was out of this world, with dinners particularly spectacular with fresh seafood including lobster and crab. This place left a warm feeling in our hearts - we would recommend it, highly!

This is such a special place! We only stayed 2 nights but had an amazing time. The food is delicious and service was perfect (thank you to Juma and Frank specifically).

Excellent very nice place to stay for a couple

I visited The Island with my fiancee and it was an incredible experience. This little gem of an island is one of a kind. Around 6 bangalows, beautifully decorated and clean. Environment friendly plastic free and with recyclable products. The food is outstanding. Their onsite restaurant serves delicious pasta and other seafood dishes as well as delicious breakfasts. The staff is super friendly and professional. Vaileth served us most of the times and she was the best. Always happy and making sure we were satisfied with food and service. The managers Amine and his wife Margo are running this little paradise to perfection. Dont hesitate to book, if you can make it to Pongwe, the Island is a must.

The island is chock-full if friendly and comforting staff members which truly elevate the unique experience provided by the island itself. The villas were extremely clean and we didn’t even encounter one big inside ours. The pool was a nice addition and just walking around being surrounded by palms, turquoise waters and silence was as breathtaking as it gets. To add to all this - THE FOOD was extraordinary. Hats off to the chef. We had 4 meals here within 24 hours time and loved each one! Thank you to all the staff that make the island an incredible place to stay.
