Hotel do Carmo (The Editory Garden Carmo Funchal)

Stayed here for a week during my recent solo travel to Madeira, and aside from the friendly staff, the clean facilities and the included daily buffet-style breakfast, the convenience of its location was what stood out for me the most: it's somehow both in a quiet neighbourhood and less than 10 minutes of walk away from the seaside and the marina, probably 5 minutes away from many local, non-touristy dining options and shops. For travellers who prefer or are used to extras like on-site massages and spa days with their stay, this might not be the best option as it's still a 3-Star hotel after all. But for solo travellers and couples who simply need a nice, clean, well-situated spot to rest, recharge and perhaps take a dip in the pool before heading out for new adventures? I highly recommend The Editory Garden Carmo Funchal!

A lovely hotel in the city centre. I had a refurbished room which was very comfortable with modern decor and feel. Breakfast was plentiful but could have been varied a bit from day to day. I enjoyed using the pool but the sun umbrellas were not in use as I was told they had previously blown over in the wind. I couldn’t help but notice that other places in Funchal (bars etc) had similar umbrellas and used well designed sand bags to ensure they didn’t tip over. Maybe a something the hotel can look into. Overall, I‘d recommend this hotel, clean, comfortable, friendly and well positioned.

The staff were extremely helpful and kind. The rooms are very nice and clean. The breakfast was good, but would have been nice to switch up the food every once in a while just to have something different sometimes. Other than that we had a great stay here. Would definitely recommend and come back!

Would not recommend. My reservation was for 2 Twin bed rooms but upon arrival, front desk said their information was for 2 Queen rooms. I had a hard copy of Expedia Reservation but there was only one twin room available and the other room was a Queen. The room smelled like raw sewage. The breakfast room had one coffee machine and the line was 10 people long during breakfast.

The hotel placed very close to marina and to center of the city, 5-10 min to most useful poi. Good, clean room, staff very helpful. The breakfast is good, typical I would say for this grade of hotel. Highly recommended.

Pillows were bad! Bumpy and piling inside and pillow case was broken. Bedsheets are loosely prepared so they all come undone when you get into the bed. Breakfast was average, location was good and walkable. Cleanliness in bathroom could be improved. Staff were quiet nice.

Good location. Able to walk to restaurants near old town and the marina.

Clean room with fridge and tea and coffee. A/C worked great. Good breakfast included.

Did not use the Gym or Swimming Pool
