Hôtel Vendôme

I suspect in it’s heyday this hotel was a pretty swanky place. Unfortunately, not unlike a lot of places in Nice, the effort put into maintaining these beautiful old buildings, is just not there. I did like the happy hour drink selection and prices, along with the balcony seating area. The laundry matt steps away from the property was also nice to have. The front desk staff were also a pleasure to interact with. The overall condition of the hotel, the creaky elevator, paper thin walls that you can hear everything through, a hole in the bed spread, broken shower divider, paint peeling off the walls, closet doors not fitting right, are all things that could be addressed if the ownership group felt it a priority. Hair on the walls of my bathroom and a very limited breakfast buffet, with 1 hot item only, (eggs) that were not always that good, were also negatives. I can’t help but wonder if other hotels are like this as well and perhaps the French Riveria is just riding on it’s reputation as a play ground for the rich and famous. There is no doubt that the water, the beaches (most beaches) and the weather are a huge draw. But perhaps there in lies part of the problem, if people are going to come anyway, why put any money into fixing it up?

Excellent staff in a comfortable & charming hotel in a great location.

Staff was very kind and helpful. Rooms were mostly clean - there was a small stain on the comforter, but good otherwise. My biggest complaint is the size of the bathroom and the shower. I am a small framed woman and barely fit in the shower. There is barely any room between the toilet and the wall. There were no shelves in the bathroom and the sink area is so tiny, that I barely had space to put my toothpaste and toothbrush. It’s a decent property and walking distance from train, old town, and beach. If the bathroom wasn’t as small this could be an excellent hotel.

The guest in room five somehow opened our door at 11 o’clock at night to room four. Opened the door about 6 inches, realized it was not their room and closed the door. These two rooms (four and five) were in an alcove that was closed off by a door, and it was totally dark in the alcove . You could not see the room number and I suppose the other guest didn’t know which room he was trying to open. I was told the day we checked in that in celebration of the F1 races going on in Monaco, guests were given a free glass of wine. The race went on for five days. We stayed in the hotel for three nights. The two of us had a glass of wine each day for those three days. I was charged for four glasses of wine because apparently, the wine was only meant to be given as one free glass on one day. Perhaps it was the language barrier, but I was firmly under the impression that there was a free glass of wine for each guest each day!! Don’t stay at this hotel. It’s full of surprises!!!!

Ok size rooms, smallest showers ever

We booked a stay for 4 adults (us and our 2 adult children). We booked the mezzanine room which was very spacious and had 2 bathrooms. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful. The hotel is at a very convenient location and met all of our needs. We would stay there again
