If you are looking for a genuine ryokan to stay in Takayama look no further. We stayed in a room with a private toilet and a little sitting area which overlooked the river. The common bathing rooms with onsen could be locked for privacy. Suitable for couples, friends travelling together and families with older children .

Staff is friendly, location is excellent, room excellent (with my own toilet), bathroom is shared but only one guest can use it at any time (this is good), place is old (also positive), food was Okay (quantity was good quality was average). Overall was a good experience.

A wonderful, unique, and meaningful stay for our family of four. This inn offers an authentic, traditional Japanese experience with superior care and fabulous food (you MUST add the dinner experiences!). We will remember it always.

Absolutely amazing

The owners and staff were very warm and welcoming. However, the structure was old and a little tired looking. Our sleeping room only had one electrical outlet with a lamp plugged into it. This made charging our iPhones and tablets difficult. Also, the one larger onsen was never available during our 4 day stay. Perhaps a sign up sheet with a 45 minute time slot could help make the onsen available to more visitors. On the positive side, the ryokan was well located a short distance from the train station and some interesting sights in Takayama.

Absolutely incredible, a highlight of our trip! The staff were really friendly and the food was really good. They also had an onsen which was really relaxing. Our only regret was that we didn’t book it sooner so that we could’ve stayed more than one night.

Unique authentic experience. We enjoyed our hosts and the property.
