I recently completed a five-night stay at the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square. The hotel’s greatest strength is its excellent location in the heart of Shanghai, just minutes from many of the city’s most iconic attractions, shopping districts, and cultural landmarks. The sweeping skyline views from the guest rooms are truly impressive and among the property’s highlights.
Breakfast was consistently prompt each morning, with a thoughtful and well-balanced selection of local and international options.
Unfortunately, several aspects of the stay fell short of expectations. Housekeeping was inconsistent, as trash was never removed from my room during my stay. The pillows were of poor quality and flattened almost immediately, making sleep less comfortable. The bathtub drain plug was also defective, causing drainage issues.
I was disappointed by some staff interactions. As a Mandarin speaker, I overheard conversations that were unprofessional when staff assumed I could not understand them. Outside the hotel, smoking taxi drivers gathered near the entrance, detracting from the otherwise upscale atmosphere.
The room was also consistently warmer than expected. Despite having an individual thermostat, the air conditioning appeared to be centrally controlled and was unable to adequately cool the room. I ultimately purchased a small fan to remain comfortable at night.
Overall, the hotel offers a comfortable stay, but definitely not up to the Marriott standard I know.
