Stay away! This has to be the worst hotel in Iceland.
I stayed here a few years and remember it fondly, this week has been a joke: nothing works, the staff are oblivious, the rooms are old and the breakfast buffet is terrible.
Let’s start from the top:
1) the rooms vary, you should insist on the ‘updated’ room otherwise you’re basically staying in a hostel
2) the faucet turns itself off. The shower can’t be fully turned off so it leaks all night. The TV doesn’t work - the channels buffer and at super glitchy. The curtains can’t be fully closet so during 24daylight, it’s hard to black out the room. There is no AC so the room gets super hot when it’s sunny.
3) the staff are so used to people complaining that they just don’t care anymore. They pretend the best they can, but there is nothing they can do. reception told me “this hotel is very old so many things don’t work”
4) the breakfast buffet!!! OMG. They Americanized it and it’s now terrible eggs, bacon and other slop. The best part is the bread: that’s still fresh and Icelandic. Even the yogurt is warm.
I’ve stayed in many places and in many countries: this place is a terrible disappointment
