One of the oldest parts of Belgrade – dating all the way back to the Neolithic era, Zemun is now a booming urban municipality of Belgrade, and a fantastic sight for history lovers. With its colorful past – and now flourishing economy, a private walking tour is the best way to get a deeper understanding of Zemun before and now. Your tour starts with a pick up from your hotel. From there, you'll head towards Serbia's Main Post Office. Built in 1896, it represents one of the most important buildings in the history of Zemun. From there, walk through the Square of Magistrate, then through Godspodska Street and Massaryk Square to finally reach the river Danube, easily the most beautiful sight in Zemun. Here, stop at any of the restaurants along the quay and indulge in some delicious local food (at own cost), or just walk around and take in the fascinating sights. Continue on to Gardos hill, where you'll find the most popular symbol of Zemun, the Millennium Tower. From there, take in breathtaking views of the Danube and almost all of Belgrade! On your walk back to the town proper, pass by Nikolaj Church, the House of Karamatin, until you finally reach the famous "White Bear" – the oldest building in Zemun and the only Balkan-style house in this part of the city. Back on the main street, pass by the only opera house in Belgrade, "Madlenianum." Before the end of the tour, walk to the City Park, and pass the Franciscan Church of St. John the Baptist – the only monastery left in Belgrade. Your final stop: the Air Force Command Headquarters that was built in 1935 – a beautiful, modern Yugoslavian-style building, and hailed as one of the most important edifices of this architectural style.
