A must-visit museum in Nagoya for anyone with even the slightest interest in Japanese culture and history. Built on the site of one of the residences of the Edo Period's hugely wealthy Owari Tokugawa family, the museum houses an extensive and diverse collection of over 10,000 treasures including samurai swords, priceless scrolls, ancient tea sets, costumes, poems and maps. Many items are even designated National Treasures, Important Cultural Properties or Important Art Objects. If you're lucky, the world-famous Tale of Genji picture scrolls may be on display (or you can watch the video instead). Tie your trip in with a visit the the adjacent Tokugawa-en beautifully landscaped Japanese garden (not included with this ticket.)
