You can deeply experience the charm of Ainu culture by watching performances of ancient Ainu dances, experiencing traditional skills, tasting food culture, and participating in activities such as making traditional handicrafts. It is also a resting place surrounded by rich nature and full of Ainu culture.
This is the first national museum in Hokkaido, dedicated to displaying the history and culture of the Ainu people. The exhibition is divided into a basic exhibition room narrated from the perspective of the Ainu people and a special exhibition room for visitors to visit. In addition to the exhibition room, the museum also has a theater showing films. In addition, the museum shop also offers a variety of handicrafts and original goods for visitors to purchase.
Lunch is free and you can choose from four restaurants. There are Ainu cuisine and desserts produced in the province, as well as a museum shop selling special souvenirs of Ainu culture!

No tuvimos mucho tiempo para explorar toda la instalación y el “guía” que nos asignaron solo habla japonés. El conductor y la persona que nos ayudó solo nos llevaron hasta y desde la zona; en realidad, es más bien una visita autoguiada. Sin embargo, la experiencia fue memorable y la visita a este lugar valió la pena.
No se trata de una visita guiada. Nos reunimos con la persona encargada en el punto de encuentro y nos llevaron al autobús que nos llevaría a Upopoy. El viaje en autobús duró una hora y los asientos estaban bastante apretados porque se utilizó una furgoneta pequeña, probablemente debido a los pocos participantes. Éramos los únicos participantes extranjeros junto con unas 6 ancianas japonesas. Al llegar, otra persona encargada nos dio el billete y nos dio una explicación sencilla en japonés que no pudimos entender en absoluto. A partir de ese momento, todo fue gratis y fácil. Había algunas actuaciones disponibles con audioguía en inglés. Las exposiciones y los talleres están todos en japonés. El 90% de los artículos del museo se presentan con una explicación en inglés, lo que fue realmente suficiente para nosotros. Pudimos probarnos disfraces sencillos ainu de forma gratuita y un personal amable y servicial nos tomó fotografías. Hay talleres como bordado y tallado de madera disponibles por una tarifa de 1000 yenes, aunque es asequible, pero lleva 60 minutos, por lo que no queda mucho tiempo para explorar el museo. El paisaje es hermoso, nos hubiera gustado quedarnos allí más de 4 horas. No estoy seguro de si es porque fuimos temprano por la mañana, no había muchos visitantes. Es una verdadera joya escondida, ya que no ha sido contaminada por XHS y sus usuarios (si sabes a qué me refiero).
Se trataba de un autobús lanzadera con un guía de habla inglesa que nos explicaba la distribución del centro cultural ainu y, después, teníamos tiempo libre (unas 4 horas) para recorrer los alrededores, ver espectáculos en directo y comer. Me pareció muy interesante, pero también me interesa la cultura nativa.
Es muy bueno conocer la cultura ainu y realizar varias actividades allí
