Jinxi Ancient Town

Jinxi Ancient Town

Jinxi Ancient Town is located on the shore of Dianshan Lake in the southern suburbs of Kunshan. It is a Jiangnan water town with a thousand-year history. The ancient town is not big. The ancient lotus bridge like a Chinese landscape painting and the mysterious Chen Fei water tomb attract tourists to come and explore. Various folk museums are also worth visiting. There are also various snack shops on the old street. The folk museums include the Ancient Brick and Tile Museum, the Zisha Museum, and the Pot Museum, which display antiques, and the Cultural Revolution Collection Exhibition Hall for tourists to reminisce about history. The snacks on the old street include Jinxi’s special products, such as socks, Changlong mooncakes, and crabapple cakes, as well as Jiangnan specialties such as Euryale cakes, meat and pig’s trotters. Walking along the water lane to the end of the old street, you will see a wide open space in front of you. In front of a pond full of rowing boats are the Lotus Pond Zen Temple and Wenchang Pavilion, which were built in the Southern Song Dynasty. The temple is very popular. On the lake near the Zen temple, every summer, the green lotus is lush, and the ancient lotus bridge is set off. The scenery is very beautiful and it is a good place for photography. On the lake, there is also the water tomb of Concubine Chen, the tomb of Emperor Xiaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty’s favorite concubine. It is said that no matter how the water level changes, the water tomb is always exposed on the lake surface, which is a famous sight. Although Jinxi has the common water lanes, stone bridges and long corridors and ancient houses in the ancient towns of Jiangnan, and is not as famous as the nearby Zhouzhuang and Tongli, it is quieter and has a richer and more simple atmosphere of life. Walking along the water lane, you can often see local uncles and grandfathers sitting in the corridor drinking tea and chatting, showing a leisurely urban style.
