Bells and Spells by Victoria Thierrée Chaplin starring Aurélia Thi - Show Introduction

with Jaime Martinez
Created by the award-winning Victoria Thierrée Chaplin, Bells and Spells is a phantasmagorical mashup of dance, mime, puppetry and the circus arts led by Victoria’s daughter, the multifaceted Aurélia Thierrée. This story of a kleptomaniac who falls under the influence of the objects she “borrows” will enchant you with its surreal humour and sense of magic.
Embark on a surreal, spellbinding journey full of magic, humour and mystery
Created by the multiple-award-winning Victoria Thierrée Chaplin, Bells and Spells follows the journey of an incurable kleptomaniac who finds herself at the mercy of the objects she “borrows”. In this surreal world, coat hangers start walking, chairs and a table slip and slide away, a wall opens up to reveal hidden dancers and a dress suddenly takes on a life of its own.
Using ethereal imagery and unpredictable props, this enchanting work of physical theatre blends the whimsical with the surreal. Madness, illusion, fantasy and imagination collide with elements of dance, circus arts, stage magic, mime and puppetry. You will forget logic and reason as Victoria’s daughter, Aurélia Thierrée, and dancer Jaime Martinez guide you through a story full of surreal humour and magic that offers a feast for the senses.
Aurélia Thierrée, a multifaceted artist who grew up performing in her parents’ circus shows, delivers a tender performance in her third collaboration with her mother. Consistently light-hearted, witty, amusing and enthralling, Bells and Spells is a magical spectacle that exists outside of time and space, leaving viewers entranced and amazed.
