The Chinatown Business Association invites you to experience a rich celebration of Dongzhi with a Hakka cultural focus, including two traditional Hakka culinary treasures: Hakka Tang Yuen (glutinous rice dumplings) and a twist on Hakka Rice Wine, crafted into a signature cocktail.
A Taste of Hakka Tradition
The Hakka Tang Yuen, a comforting, glutinous rice dumpling filled with hearty ingredients and served in a flavourful broth, is distinct from the sweet varieties commonly enjoyed by other dialect groups.
Hakka tangyuan is usually plain, without fillings, allowing it to soak up the flavours of a savoury soup made with pork, dried shrimp, mushrooms, and sometimes radish or stir-fried meat. This dish is often garnished with fresh green onions or coriander, which is popular during colder months or festive occasions.
Meanwhile, the Hakka Rice Wine, a cherished family brew traditionally enjoyed during cold seasons, will be presented in a modern cocktail form, highlighting the drink’s versatility and appeal to contemporary tastes.
Head down to Chinatown and try the Lemon Spark Sip, a beautiful fusion of modern Hakka Wine Cocktails which rides on the rich vitamin C of lemon to add onto this tonical rice wine by Hakka Imperial Kitchen.
The cocktail celebrates Hakka heritage by combining classic flavours with contemporary mixology, making them a unique way to enjoy the spirit of Hakka culture in a new form.
