IN THE GARDEN, Things We Found | River City Bangkok Exhibition Information

In the garden, we always found ourselves.
River City Bangkok, in collaboration with SAC Gallery, proudly presents “IN THE GARDEN, Things We Found” a Group Exhibition by Vipoo Srivilasa, Kitikong Tilokwattanotai, and Juli Baker and Summer. To each, things we created or found in our garden are personal.

Three of SAC Gallery’s celebrated artists were inspired by the beauty and truth they found in their own green spaces. Whether it's the physical garden or the garden of imagination, they are equally magical.

"The garden reconciles human art and wild nature, hard work and deep pleasure, spiritual practice and the material world. It is a magical place because it is not divided." — Thomas Moore in The Re-enchantment of Everyday Life

For this exhibition, we are honored to welcome three exceptionally talented artists: Vipoo Srivilasa, Kitikong Tilokwattanotai, and Juli Baker and Summer
Vipoo Srivilasa
For the internationally acclaimed Melbourne-based, Thai-born Australian artist, the mythical creatures of the Himmapan Forest and classical Thai literature are the MVPs in his garden. In the heart of the garden, there are the golden creatures from the 'Marriage of Sang Thong' that depict the journey of a relationship that must overcome all obstacles—dense with global-stage controversies that touch upon same-sex marriage. And in the end, love wins it all. Vipoo's ceramic sculptures were created to convey warmth, enthusiasm, and gentleness. While representing an innocent imagination, they also reflect a strong spirit to bring equality to every love.
Kitikong Tilokwattanotai
A Thai artist based in Chiang Mai, invites his audience to explore his garden of abstract imagination. He has worked in non-figurative art for the better part of two decades, refining his brushstroke as a form of communication. In a painting without direct reference to an object or person, the brushstroke must create its own meaning. Kitikong covers the vibrant compositions with a luscious lacquer, revealing every detail in the deceptively simple brushstrokes. In his garden, he found his voice in the green of vegetation, the blue and white reflection of the clear water, and the darkness of the night sky. Without a figurative subject, the meaning of these artworks exists solely in the space between the painting and the viewer.
Juli Baker and Summer
The colorful artist-writer, Juli Baker and Summer brought back vivid memories of the landscape from various locations from her summer trip to Japan. The unfamiliar shapes of the trees and the movements of the air made her record these scenes with quick strokes of brushes. Her sketches at that time resembled abstract paintings in their own right. The artworks are reminiscent of the artist's summer diary, bringing Japan's warmth and humidity back to Thailand. It is as though the viewers are invited to sit next to her while she feels the scenery.
