About the event
Design Spectrum, a platform of the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC), is hosting the second part of its "PASS THE BATON" exhibition, "FROM PROCESS TO PROGRESS", from 5 July to 14 August 2024 at D2 Place. The exhibition showcases over 20 design projects from around the world, exploring the diverse ways in which cultural values and artistic practices are passed on.
The exhibition highlights the power of materials, both tangible and intangible, in design. Hong Kong designer Niko Leung explores the potential of reclaiming local construction waste, while French designer Lucas Hosteing challenges traditional furniture design by using discarded board material. Local artist Katol revives traditional Hong Kong sign-making, while design studio NINM Lab breathes new life into cassette tapes and CD players.
The exhibition also explores how design can enhance user experience and drive innovation. Korean designer Jinhyun Jeon pushes the boundaries of tableware by incorporating synesthesia design, while a commissioned work entitled 'Beyond Sound' transforms sound waves into mesmerising visual patterns, allowing visitors to 'see' music.

"FROM PROCESS TO PROGRESS" offers a series of free public events, including guided tours, workshops, and designer talks. Highlights include a screening of "A Light Never Goes Out," a film exploring the inheritance of neon sign making, and a clay workshop led by Niko Leung.
"PASS THE BATON invites audiences to engage with the power of design to preserve and evolve cultural heritage, and to spark conversations about how to create a vibrant and innovative future.
