The Tallis Scholars|Concert Introduction

Celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Award-Winning
Early Music Vocal Ensemble
The Tallis Scholars are without doubt one of the premier early music vocal ensembles in the world. Founded by Peter Phillips in 1973, this fabulous a cappella group from the UK has brought a treasure trove of magnificent church music to a wider audience in both sacred and secular venues during the past five decades. Three celebratory programmes have been curated to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the award-winning vocal ensemble at the 2024 HKAF.
In Birthday Programme, The Tallis Scholars will perform uplifting pieces with a deeply personal meaning to them, including Gibbons’ eight-voice anthem O clap your hands. Music of the Sistine Chapel transports audiences into the mind-blowing sacred space painted by Raphael and Michelangelo. Inspired by this UNESCO Word Heritage Site, the ensemble achieves magnificent and dramatic effects in a programme including Allegri’s famous Miserere. Darkness to Light is a vibrant programme associated with the Lenten and Easter season. In this musical and spiritual journey, the ensemble captures the transcendent beauty of music designed to sound as if it comes straight from the Heavens.
The Tallis Scholars are experts in the performance of Renaissance polyphony, and their breathtaking sonic vistas are sure to thrill audiences for decades to come.
