Garden of Repose—a Multimedia Choral Concert Introduction

And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—
Hope is the thing with feathers—Emily Dickinson
Repose refers to the state of resting. But how do we rest? What are we resting from? To some, rest is an ending. To others, a beginning.
Garden of Repose is a daring cross-disciplinary endeavour by choral artist Sanders Lau, multi-disciplinary theatre maker/choreographer Ivanhoe Lam, multimedia designer Oliver Shing and UK-based set and spatial artist Ruby Law. This immersive choral concert, performed by local chamber choir NOĒMA, combines scenic design, immersive soundscapes, audio-visual technologies and choreography to open up a meditative sphere of time and space for contemplation and inner conversation.
Inspired by the narrative of the traditional Requiem, Garden of Repose is a repertoire of choral music associated with the different intense emotions of life—spiritual revelations, mourning, grief and hope. Experience a juxtaposition of works by masters from the past and present, featuring timeless classics by composers such as Antonio Lotti, Brahms and Poulenc, to contemporary masterpieces by Arvo Pärt, David Lang and Knut Nystedt.
Let the 16 members of the NOĒMA choir guide you through this transformative musical experience in a magical garden of light and sound.
