Lunar New Year Lantern Carnivals 2024 Introduction

Lunar New Year Lantern Display
Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage – Exhibition on Traditional Craftsmanship of Lantern Making
Dancing Dragon with Lanterns to Greet the New Year
The Year of the Dragon will be marked by the dazzling lanterns crafted by Master Chan Yiu-wah. To tie in with the Urban Lunar New Year Lantern Carnival 2024, the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office has collaborated with Master Chan, a local paper crafting master, on designing and crafting the exquisite lanterns. This lantern display will feature a green dragon, which symbolises the vitality of spring, as the main design element, paying tribute to the dragon dance and paper crafting technique as local ICH items. The dragon weaving between the lanterns and the blooming Chinese New Year flowers create a vibrant and colourful scene, signifying prosperity at the arrival of the Year of the Dragon. The public may experience the vibrancy of these ICH items through the exquisite paper crafting techniques of Master Chan.
