Festive Korea 2023: Musical “Vanishing”

Understanding other beings that are different from us… One that won’t vanish by nature, one on the verge of vanishing, another one in fear of having to vanish – can these beings understand each other?

Set in 1925 Seoul, the original Korean musical "Vanishing" portrays the eternal and fleeting aspects of life through the story of medical students named Uisin and Myeongryeol who met a vampire named K in a deserted house. Through the encounter between a vampire and humans, the story intertwines the tales of the characters, the one who will not disappear, the one who is disappearing, and the one who is afraid of disappearing, to convey a message about eternity and extinction. Although this musical is set a century ago, it narrates a story on the universal theme of understanding others.

This well-crafted musical production emerged as one of the selected works in the Korea Creative Content Agency's Youth Contents Creation Support Scheme 2016. Built around the concept of "K-Vampire," this musical has garnered a dedicated fan base since its tryout in 2016 and official premiere in 2017, generating excitement for its promise as a high-quality production.

At Festive Korea 2023, this highly anticipated musical will have its first overseas tour with original Korean casts in Hong Kong. It has achieved another significant milestone by licensing its production to a Chinese musical production company. The licensed musical is scheduled to have its overseas premiere in this September in Shanghai, marking a notable step towards global recognition.
