About the event
Tik Ka and Shout Gallery Singapore features「EastWest東⻄」- a marriage of East and West in a solo exhibition from 6 June to 2 July. Join the VIP reception with Tik Ka on 6th June, 5pm - 8pm.
Acclaimed Hong Kong artist, Tik Ka, will be holding his first solo exhibition in Singapore with Shout Art Hub and Gallery. Growing up in Hong Kong and being influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures, Tik Ka from East's works marries Oriental aesthetics with European, American and Japanese popular cultures (movies, comics, animation, etc.), and is representative of the Hong Kong colonial era.

Tik Ka's artistic repertoire expanded further in 2016 with the inception of his renowned "Tik Ka From East" collection. This exhibition, EastWest東⻄, features Tik Ka’s newest works along with carefully curated earlier pieces. Throughout his works, he has been a master in incorporating Chinese and Western culture in a comical manner, as such fusing Western superheroes into Peking Opera characters, Western fast food mascots into Chinese mythology heroes - a unique blend of ancient Chinese art with Western influences.
Now based in the UK, the move gave the artist an epiphany - that life is a fleeting and unpredictable phenomenon, akin to the transience of clouds. In his new home, a quiet detached house with a tranquil and blooming garden,
"Every day I would sit in the garden and watch the white clouds change, while looking back at the era of rapid changes, reminiscing about Hong Kong and missing the old days, all of which have inspired me to spend a year painting these new works."

Tik Ka featured muted tones of grey and white to paint imageries of clouds in different multitudes of shapes, with his signature Western art melding Chinese calligraphy seamlessly. The collection of original paintings depicts our favourite cartoon and movie characters rising from the clouds, symbolising triumph above life’s hardships and perhaps, a reflection of ourselves and the importance of purity of life. Clouds, in Chinese folklore, are often associated with the realms of immortals and infinity. In the new palette, Tik Ka adds a touch of glittering gold leaves to the clouds, the glimmer of gold drawing light to the serene muted canvas.
The exhibition will feature Tik Ka’s earlier works together with 4 exclusive works, one of the highlights being the viral meme of “A Woman Yells at Cat” reimagined with a twist in Tik Ka’s East and West style
Exhibiting for the first time in Singapore, Tik Ka aims to connect with the country's culture, where the East and West coexist, much like his own creative journey as an artist. Come and take a look into Tik Ka's amalgamated world where the 'East' meets the 'West,' providing a glimpse into the 'things' that he ‘sees’.
