About the event
Duke Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky 6 | Concert Information

If there’s a hint of Prokofiev, Barber and Korngold in the Violin Concerto by Vernon Duke (1903–1969), it may come as a no surprise to learn that its composer was born Vladimir Dukelsky in Russia and subsequently Americanised. Famous contemporaries who praised his work include Diaghilev, Prokofiev, Gershwin, Koussevitzky and Balanchine – for good reason, which you will hear in his instantly compelling Violin Concerto. Tchaikovsky’s epic Pathétique Symphony completes this exciting programme of rare gem and concert hall favourite.
