Sitar performer Anil Singh will perform Hindustani classical music from northern India, nourishing the audiences’ hearts through the ethereal sounds.

The first half of the recital focuses on Indian classical raga. Based on the framework of the ragas, Singh will improvise according to his feelings, mood and the vibes at the very moment. In the second half of the recital, Singh will showcase the variety of Hindustani classical music by performing dhuns, a semi-classical form of Indian music. Dhuns are short pieces with a large variety of pitches and rhythms being used. As the finale of the recital, Singh will play an old river song from West Bengal, offering the audiences an experience of a regional Indian style and genre.

About Anil Singh

Anil Singh devoted his childhood and teenage years to the intensive music training in the tradition of Guru-Shishya parampara under the tutelage of the late sarod maestro Shri Rajesh Chandra Moitra, who shaped him to become the fourth generation of the Maihar Gharana (a musical lineage of Hindustani classical music). Performing and teaching in India over 25 years, he is revered by his audience and student for his devotion to music and spirituality in life. Singh has lived in Hong Kong since 2011. Apart from lecturing in different universities, he has also collaborated with musicians from various traditions and genres to bring the beauty of the sitar and Hindustani classical music to the local audience. Singh is conferred a Banaras Shri Award in 2015 for his outstanding achievements.
