17th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival 2023 Introduction

Organised by Fresh Wave Film Festival Limited (Fresh Wave), the Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival takes place annually, with the aim to promote and encourage local short film production, and to discover and nurture young talents. The 17th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival will take place from 9 June to 2 July 2023, screening a total of 38 films, accompanied by sharing sessions with local filmmakers, at Broadway Cinematheque, PREMIERE ELEMENTS and Golden Scene Cinema. Featured works include: Opening Film, Spacked Out (2000) directed by Lawrence LAU, 2 Opening Shorts by the commissioned artist, Tiger YAU, and the previous winner of the Fresh Wave Award, SIU Chi-yan, 14 short films from the Local Competition*, 1 short film which is out of the Competition and 20 from the International Selection**. All the works are categorised into 12 programmes with various themes. The Local Competition Awards Presentation Ceremony is tentatively scheduled on 24th June where the winners of the Local Competition will be announced.

All the films in this Programme Guide have not yet been categorised by the Office for Film, Newspaper and Article Administration at the time of its printing. If any film is subsequently classified as Category III, a notice will be posted at the screening venue and on www.cinema.com.hk and www.goldenscene.com.

*Refunds and Programme ChangesIf any film is subsequently classified as Category III, exchange of ticket (of the programme) or refunds can be made to ticket holders under 18 years of age from the day of announcement until before the screening.
