Kailin Yong's PLUS Trio at The Jazz Loft | Live Music Information

This new project is fuelled by a re-imagination of the historic Maritime Silk Road, as seen from the perspective of Temasek (the historic name of Singapore), which was already coming into its own as the region’s commerce hub around the 14th century.

The Maritime Silk Road was a meeting place for many cultures, facilitated by the waterways that were linking the classical centres of India and the Middle East with East Asia. And for Qush, who has Bugis, Javanese and Boyanese blood flowing through his veins, this project is part of his ongoing search to connect with his true cultural and spiritual identity, which pairs well with PLUS Trio’s approach of building cultural bridges through their globally-inspired original world music.

This partnership is a glorious marriage of acoustic and electronic mediums: The earthiness of PLUS Trio’s hand percussion-driven bowed strings melodies are set against Qush’s oceanic soundscapes and life-affirming pulsating beats, to create a 3D sonic portal where the past, present and future can coexist.

Wave Riders seeks not to be a chronicle of historic seafaring adventures, but more as a celebration of the resilience of the human spirit and a celebration of those who are brave enough to reconnect with “the lost, the forgotten and the unknown” in order to find their own Truth.
