About the event
A Wonderful Journey|Connie Wong|Concert Introduction

Magical musical variations on life show how to create more with less
Born with just three complete fingers, Hong Kong pianist Connie Wong was once asked if she would want fully formed digits if she had a choice. “This pair of hands has taken me through many unique life experiences, and I have begun to think of them as a gift from heaven,” she replied.
As a child, Wong underwent multiple operations on her hands. Yet passionate about music from a young age, she started learning the piano at the age of 13. At The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), she specialised in piano performance, going on after graduation to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she received a master’s degree and a doctorate in ethnomusicology.
Dr. Wong has taught at CUHK, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and offers private piano lessons for students suffering from similar conditions. She has performed in America, Canada, and across Asia, and is a frequent guest speaker at schools, hospitals, churches, jails and commercial organizations. Her autobiography, Pursuing the Dream: A Life Symphony of the Three-fingered Pianist published in 2017, was also received with acclaim for its candid account of growing up with disability.
In this adventurous multi-genre concert, Wong plays pieces that further speak of her own journey and her optimism for a bright future, featuring guest performances by talented musicians like Prof. Anthony Chan from the medical field, who have known or connected with her during the years. In the last part of the show, Wong will also be joined by her protégé Eunice Kan and mentor Dr. Mary Wu. A resonant neversay-never voyage into the vitalising sounds of music.
