Central Market would like to invite you to the “Ode to Good Old Hong Kong: a Prosperous Lunar New Year Fair by Central Market” at the vintage building with century-long history. Featuring traditional Hong Kong-style festive flower boards and “lost but not forgotten” authentic green metal street stalls, this is the final boarding call for the time machine journey from Central Market to the good old 20s Hong Kong. Central Market is also proud to present you an exhibition and market centering around the theme “Lunar New Year Culture,” in partnership with Hong Kong Society of Illustrators. By fostering traditional culture and local creativity, we hope to kick start the year of the Rabbit by educating the next generation about Hong Kong culture.

Six spectacular events:

1. Celebrating Chinese New Year with traditional flower boards

There will be a 5-metre tall LED flower board at Central Market G/F Oasis, greeting all visitors with our most heartfelt blessings for a prosperous Year of the Rabbit to all visitors.Central Market will decorate G/F Oasis with 450 big red lanterns that are symbols of the Lantern Festival. It will become the most festive scene of the city for the season. There will also be different Lunar New Year decorations in Central Market to bring visitors the most jubilant experience.

2. “Good Old Hong Kong Street Market”

Multiple time-honoured local brands and social enterprises will be selling Lunar New Year-exclusive products at the street market, including Sun Kee Cafe, Kwan Kee Bamboo Noodle, ZeroToOne, Hong Kong Chan Chi Mei, iflorist and Abalone King. Visitors can shop for the season while submerging themselves in the unique vigour of good old Hong Kong.

3. “Poor Man’s Nightclub Street Market”

There will also be over 30 stalls at “Poor Man’s Nightclub Street Market,” selling retro products from the 80s. The stall design of the “Poor Man’s Nightclub Street Market” is inspired by the old green metal stalls and Hong Kong staple Red-white-blue bags, shedding another shade of meaning to the Year of the Rabbit.

4. Prosperous Lunar New Year flower market

1/F will be decorated into the Hong Kong Lunar New Year staple, the flower market. Picking the flower of your choice from a long roster with great variety, including orchids, peach flowers, narcissus, lucky bamboo, dragon claw bamboo and golden fruit.

5. Society of Hong Kong Illustrators Bazaar

The Central Market x Hong Kong Society of Illustrators Bazaar will be held at Central Market to showcase original works of its members. There will also be a Central Market Chinese New Year Heritage Illustration Exhibition where works of 47 local illustrators will be on display with decryption games for you to decipher. You can also join workshops where local illustrators will work together with you to create a unique Chinese New Year scroll to usher in the Year of the Rabbit.

6. Retro toy store by Good Bad Creative

Numerous retro toys, antiques, magazines and posters will be displayed at the store to take visitors on a nostalgic journey of Hong Kong history and culture.
