Show Introduction

In response to the severe humanitarian crisis triggered by Russia's military action against Ukraine, theater workers from many countries have launched joint play-reading or performance fundraising activities, hoping to send aid and support to the locals. The Hong Kong-based troupe "Into the Whites" was authorized by the original author, Ukrainian screenwriter and film director Natalya Vorozhbit, and translator Sasha Dugdale, to respond to the online reading of the play with excerpts from the play "Bad Roads".

"Bad Roads" uses several stories to describe the people of the Donbas region of Udon, facing the attack and occupation of pro-Russian separatists in 2020, in order to survive and face the threat of war. The film version directed by the screenwriter himself participated in the 2020 Venice International Film Festival and won an award, and was also selected as the Ukrainian entry for the 2021 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
