About the event
Show Introduction

The 50th Hong Kong Arts Festival opens on February 25 with a programme showcasing the crème de la crème of local musical talent. Maestro Wilson Ng returns to his hometown to lead the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert of Mahler’s exquisite Symphony No 4, with a second performance on February 26.
Replete with playful tunes, birdsongs and melodic delights, this masterpiece stirs the heart to euphoric heights, from the sleigh bells jingling of the opening bars through to the marvellous lieder at the end. Our very own Louise Kwong, soprano, will be the featured soloist in that fourth movement, her heavenly voice a fitting accompaniment for Mahler’s graceful songs.
As a counterpoint to the delicacy of the Fourth Symphony, the concert will begin with the vibrant Towards the Superior by local composer So Ting-cheong, with its textured chromaticism, and Scriabin’s scintillating and sensuous The Poem of Ecstasy.
Come experience the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, with maestro Wilson Ng and soprano Louise Kwong in this musical extravaganza and celebrate the brilliance of Hong Kong musicians with the opening of the 50th Hong Kong Arts Festival!
