Lake Biwa Museum Adimission in Shiga

Lake Biwa is an ancient lake and home to over 2,000 species, including unique species that cannot be seen anywhere else. The Lake Biwa Museum showcases the formation and history of the lake, the animals that have inhabited the area, the history of the people around the lake, and the connection between modern people and the lake. In addition to three exhibition rooms covering geological history, human history, and nature related to our lives, the museum also has one of the largest freshwater aquariums in Japan, covering approximately 2,000 square meters. In particular, the large tunnel aquarium gives visitors the feeling of being on the bottom of the lake. The museum also has a room for “exploration and discovery,” equipped with microscopes and offering the opportunity to observe and touch many biological, geological, and cultural specimens.
