What to expect
Hokkaido is one of Japan’s leading producers of seafood. Our local staff will explain the traditional method of catching octopus, called “octopus box fishing”, and how to tell the sexes apart. They will also teach you how to process the octopus you catch. You will be able to taste the octopus boiled in a large drum-like skillet, called "Sun-doo-gama (寸胴釜) " in Japanese, and also experience the hanging of the boiled octopus to cool it down, which is quite photogenic. It’s also a great way to sample parts of the body that even Japanese people can’t usually eat, such as gills. Participants will receive 500g of boiled octopus as a souvenir.

Our experienced staff will teach you how to identify the sex of octopus, which is difficult even for fishermen!
