Reviews
I signed up for this local tour using SingapoRediscover voucher. The audio set was very useful and I was able to hear the history and information from the guide very clearly despite the noisy streets. It started with a commentary and history of early immigrants' lives. An interesting introduction to coffee and tea thereafter. I was briefed on how bak-kut-teh orginated when on my way for lunch with the guide. Passed by a tea store that serves bubble tea and traditional Chinese tea while walking after lunch. After the walk, I had coffee and bread at Nanyang Coffee which houses a simple coffee museum.
My tour was with Patrick and he was very knowledgeable and friendly throughout the whole tour. We went to have lunch and tea at Hokkien Street Bak Kut Teh, then we went to Pek Sin Choon and was lucky to meet the owner who did more sharing on Pek Sin Choon history and different types of teas. We then went to Nanyang Old Coffee to have the traditional coffee (though we opt out of having the butter in our coffee).
Highly informative and engaging tour, it's like an inside info storytelling session, except these are real. It doesn't feel like 3h Think you know the origins of our Bak Kut Teh & Singapore breakfast? Come listen to Patrick's version & decide the perspective you want to take. Highly recommended! Gonna check out Patrick's other tours on Perspective, subsidiary of 8th wave. I really like that 30% of the tour fees goes to beneficiaries that goes to supporting people who need a little support from the more fortunate ones in Singapore.
It was an amazing tour with Patrick as our guide, leading us around some of the familiar parts of Singapore, but fascinating us with so many interesting stories of our country's history that we were unaware of prior to the tour, and most importantly, how they relate to the foods & drinks that we sampled along the way. The tour was well planned and its flow was perfect. This tour is arguably one of the best we have attended out of many similar tours we have joined locally and overseas. Highly recommended, especially if you have a soft spot for local coffees and teas. We absolutely enjoyed ourselves from the start of the tour till the end.
Absolutely enjoyable n insightful tour that took us through Chinatown's many highlights plus lesser known secrets. You'll never look at those everyday landmarks the same way again -thanks to our guide's, Patrick's, engaging n knowledgeable sharing. Highly recommended for anyone looking to see SG through different eyes.
Felt like a tourist on this Kopi and Cha guided tour! Our guide, Patrick is professional, knowledgeable and humorous which made the tour lively and enjoyable. Rediscovered places which I may have walked past many times but this time with a different perspective and understanding. Well paced afternoon for us to learn more about early migrant history, food culture and at the same time enjoy Bak Kut teh, much caffeine fix of coffee and tea with added bonus of kueh enjoyed together with new friends made on this tour. Highly recommend people to go on this Kopi and Cha - Bitter Brews with a Story tour! You won’t regret 😊
Patrick is very knowledgeable about the history and shared very interesting insights on the cultural background. He is also very engaging and warm. It was a truly enjoyable tour with wonderful food. I enjoyed the coffee museum part the most.
A wonderful and well planned tour. Kudos to Patrick, our guide, for bringing the tour to life with his interesting narration and stories. Definitely a tour to consider if you are interested in culture, history and food!
Through the outing/tour, 4 of us enjoyed and enriched ourselves with new knowledge about tea. Our guide, Lai Yoke (pleasant & nice), conducted the tour at good pace for the group of 14 pax. She shared some history & myths about aspects of Chinatown as we walk through the alleys. Besides info & stories for the head, there are yummy food & drinks for the stomach! I had hokkien Bak Kut Teh for the first time - there is white or yam rice (yam rice is nice) and you can top up your soup (yummy hot soup to dunk the nice crispy 'you tiao'). After some walking, nice to sit down for a coffee - I enjoyed the nice Nanyang coffee with its good aroma & the crunchy kaya & butter toasts! Before we start, I thought 3 hrs is quite long but time just flew by as we enjoyed the tour. Overall, nice & enjoyable mid morning tour with sights & food!
interesting tour which shows a different side of Singapore's history. enjoyable experience
