What to expect
This programme explores insects in Singapore’s culture, history, and ecology. Participants learn about insects in folklore and kampong life, supported by archival anecdotes and photos. They examine specimens such as butterflies, beetles, cicadas, and dragonflies, observing unique features with magnifying lenses. A guided sketching session introduces naturalist illustration and how early scientists documented local insects. The programme ends with group reflections on cultural stories, ecological roles, and the balance between pest control, conservation, and appreciation. Participants keep their sketches as a memento.
