Create your own beautiful New Year’s shimenawa at the Lemongrass Shimenawa Crafting Workshop held at Kumamoto Herb Garden. Using fresh lemongrass grown on-site, you’ll learn traditional Japanese weaving techniques to make this sacred rope that symbolizes purity and protection.
The experience begins with an introduction to the history of shimenawa and the use of herbs, followed by hands-on guidance to twist and shape lemongrass into a circular rope. Once finished, you’ll decorate your creation freely with herbs and ornaments, designing a piece that reflects your own style.
