Borobudur (Guarantee Climb-up) & Prambanan Guided Tour

As a solo traveler, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! This tour was well-paced, safe, and incredibly enriching. Our guide Lingga was not only friendly and approachable but also had a deep knowledge of the temples and local culture. He made sure everyone felt included, and I never once felt out of place traveling alone. The sunset at Borobudur was beyond words—absolutely magical and peaceful, with stunning views that made the climb worth every step. Visiting Prambanan afterwards was the perfect way to end the day, with Lingga explaining the legends behind the temples in a way that brought everything to life. Highly recommend this tour to any solo traveler looking for a meaningful and memorable experience in Yogyakarta. Bonus tip: request for Lingga if you can—he truly made the tour special!

we had Ujeee as our driver and day guide, and you couldn’t have asked for a better guy. Ujeee is an exceptional driver and guide throughout our visit to Prambanan and Borobudur. His driving was smooth, safe, and reliable, making every journey comfortable and worry-free. He was very punctual and pickup, and always ready with the car from every spot. He took us to a wonderful Batik Art shop where we bought a batik painting you can’t find anywhere else, and took us to a great restaurant for lunch. Definitely ask for Ujeee if you can!!

Since the booking was made at the last minute and only included transportation, I was worried we might not be able to enter Borobudur, but we successfully entered the temple complex. Our guide, Sigit, was very friendly and provided a smooth tour. His driving skills were particularly excellent, significantly reducing our travel time. Although the entrance fee is separate, I think this is a very good value plan.

I've been using Klook for over ten years, and this was my second worst experience. First, it turned out this wasn't a group tour but a private car charter, and it didn't include admission tickets or meals. If that's the case, choosing a 10-hour or 12-hour car charter on Klook would have been much cheaper than this activity. Buying tickets yourself is easy and poses no difficulty, so this activity was more expensive than a typical car charter service. Second, the driver arrived at the hotel early to wait, but he stopped at two gas stations and one convenience store along the way. I believe these are things that should be handled before picking up guests. The driver didn't inform us of the schedule in advance. He only told us we could stay at Borobudur for 1.5 hours, but waiting for the guide already took 30 minutes, and frankly, the guide wasn't very helpful. I would have preferred to explore on my own. Then, we couldn't find the exit and wanted the driver to pick us up closer, but he insisted on waiting in the parking lot near the exit. After more than ten minutes, we still hadn't found the exit. We asked the driver again to wait in a parking lot closer to us, and only then did he agree. By the time we got in the car, it was almost 12:40 PM. I requested to have lunch between Borobudur and Prambanan. The driver repeatedly suggested going to a nearby coffee shop, which we declined. If we went directly from Borobudur to Prambanan, it would take 1 hour and 20 minutes. However, going from Borobudur to the restaurant took 65 minutes, and from the restaurant to Prambanan took 25 minutes. I didn't see any problem with this arrangement. But the driver stopped at a coffee shop and an unknown restaurant entrance along the way, asking if we wanted to have coffee or eat there, which I declined again. We arrived at the restaurant at 2:10 PM. The driver told us we only had 30 minutes to eat because it would take 1 hour to get from the restaurant to Prambanan, and Prambanan closed at 4:30 PM. I checked Google Maps, and it showed only a 25-minute drive. Moreover, the driver only reminded us that the temple closed at 4:30 PM while we were on the way to the restaurant, which prevented me from planning our time better. Well, we ultimately spent 30 minutes eating, and then 25 minutes to get from the restaurant to the temple, not the 1 hour the driver claimed. So why did he rush and mislead us? And if he clearly knew there wasn't enough time, why did he repeatedly try to persuade us to go to coffee shops? Finally, upon entry, he repeatedly failed to scan the QR code. I didn't have time to wait for him and immediately bought two admission tickets online myself. Ultimately, Prambanan did not close at 4:30 PM as the driver said; many locals were still entering. When we got out of the car, I only paid for two Borobudur admission tickets, 455,000 x 2 = 910,000. The driver said no, it should be 1,000,000. We argued for a while. The admission ticket was clearly 455,000 per person, so why was he charging extra? Tickets can be easily purchased online with a click. The activity page stated that tickets were to be paid separately, but it turns out there was a surcharge from the supplier. Everyone should be aware of this. In the end, I insisted on paying only 910,000. The driver's behavior throughout the day made me very angry. I chose this activity because all the Klook reviews were excellent, but who knew the arrangements would be so poor, and the cost was also more expensive than other car charter services.

Mr. AG, the driver, is a truly wonderful person. His service to guests embodies the highest level of Japanese hospitality. He always considers things from the guest's perspective, ensuring their satisfaction. If you plan to join a tour organized by Ayla Tour, I highly recommend requesting Mr. AG. Even if you don't speak English, you can communicate using a translation app on your smartphone. Despite my limited English, he kindly rephrased things in simpler terms for me. He goes beyond his role as a driver, providing valuable information as a guide and offering unique experiences that only locals would know. For example, we were talking about the salak fruit harvested around Yogyakarta, and he stopped at a roadside stand to buy some and let me try it. He even gave me the remaining salak as a souvenir. Regarding the Borobudur Sunset tour title, whether you can see the sunset depends on the Borobudur Temple's closing time and the sunset time. It's best to check this online before participating. While you can view the sunset from Borobudur Temple, capturing a photo of the entire Borobudur Temple with the sunset might not be possible due to the direction. I was extremely satisfied with both the tour content and the driver's quality. I recommend a private tour over a group tour with multiple unknown participants.

Overall, I was very satisfied with this private car charter experience in Yogyakarta. Although I felt unwell after arriving in Yogyakarta and couldn't proactively contact the supplier, they still reached out via WhatsApp the day before the trip to provide meeting and itinerary information, which was very reassuring. The driver, Ujee, messaged me the evening before to introduce himself and confirm the pickup time for the next day, and he arrived at the hotel punctually on the day of the trip. At the start of the tour, there was a misunderstanding regarding ticket fees. The driver immediately helped contact the supplier for clarification, and the supplier quickly called to explain that the tickets were included in my booked package. The issue was resolved promptly. I recommend that travelers carefully review the itinerary details and whether tickets are included when booking, to avoid misunderstandings due to different packages. Ujee provided excellent service and was very attentive to traveler needs, willing to assist and accommodate within reasonable limits, which made the entire trip smoother and more enjoyable. The vehicle was a Toyota SUV, clean and tidy inside, with spacious and comfortable seating. The car was in good condition, and the overall ride was comfortable. Many thanks to the supplier and driver Ujee for their assistance. I highly recommend this to travelers planning a trip to Yogyakarta.
