Guangzhou Ocean World is located inside Guangzhou Zoo, No. 120, Xianlie Middle Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou. It opened to the public in January 1998 and was one of the first ocean aquariums to operate in China. It has been awarded the titles of "Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Education Base for Youngsters" and "National Science Education Base". In June 2024, Guangzhou City Construction & Development Group Co., Ltd. completed the quality improvement and equipment renewal of the venue. The Guangzhou Ocean World has been completely renewed and reopened, and is operated and managed by Guangzhou Ocean World Operation and Management Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Guangzhou Tower.
Guangzhou Ocean World covers an area of approximately 16,000 square meters, with a total construction area of approximately 20,000 square meters. It consists of four themed zones: Rainforest Exploration, Wonderland, Future Sea, and Elf Bay. It is a multi-functional ocean aquarium integrating display, viewing, science popularization, and education. The aquarium displays more than 300 kinds of marine life, nearly 10,000 marine fishes. Here, you can see the ferocious "Sand Tiger Shark", the agile and lovely "Bottlenose Dolphin", the rare "Spotted Seal", "Green Sea Turtle", and the beluga whale known as the "sea canary"; the freshwater fish Arapaima gigas, as well as native freshwater fish in the Pearl River system such as giant salamanders, Garra orientalis, and Chinese sucker.
Through rich marine life, vivid marine science, interesting interactive installations, and natural display methods, Guangzhou Ocean World brings an extraordinary experience of marine culture to citizens and tourists. At the same time, it continues to advocate the green development concept of caring for marine animal welfare and protecting marine ecological diversity, and strives to build a domestic boutique ocean aquarium, becoming an important display window for Guangzhou to achieve "new vitality in the old city".
