What to expect
Huaqing Palace, also known as "Huaqing Pool," includes the original Lishan National Forest Park and is one of China's four major royal gardens, along with the Summer Palace, the Old Summer Palace, and the Chengde Mountain Resort. Huaqing Palace served as a detached palace for feudal emperors of the Tang Dynasty. It is located in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, leaning against Mount Lishan to the south and facing the Wei River to the north, adjacent to the "Eighth Wonder of the World," the Terracotta Army.
Emperors of the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang dynasties built detached palaces and villas here. It is renowned at home and abroad for its constant hot spring resources, the historical allusion of "烽火戏诸侯" (Beacon Fire Pranks the Lords), the love story of Emperor Tang Minghuang and Yang Guifei, and being the site of the "Xi'an Incident," making it a landmark scenic spot for Tang Palace culture tourism in China.
Huaqing Palace houses the Tang Royal Hot Spring Site Museum, the Xi'an Incident Site - Five-Room Hall, the Nine Dragon Lake and Furong Lake scenic areas, the Tang Liyuan Relics Museum, and other cultural areas, as well as landmark building complexes such as Feishuang Hall, Wanshou Hall, Changsheng Hall, Huan Garden, and Yuwang Hall. Mount Lishan has an altitude of 1302 meters, and scenic spots such as the Laomu Temple, Laojun Temple, Beacon Tower, Bingjian Pavilion, Shiweng Temple, and Yuxian Bridge are scattered throughout. "Lishan Evening Glow" is one of the famous "Eight Sights of Guanzhong."
