Salzburg City Card

Basically, if you buy the Salzburg Card, this magical card allows you to ride public transportation for free in Salzburg, visit attractions for free, and get extra discounts. After exiting the main train station, head to the left following the green "i" sign to find the Salzburg Central Station Tourist Information Center, where you can redeem your physical card. I used the 24-hour Salzburg Card to visit the following attractions for free, which was very worthwhile: Untersberg Cable Car, Hellbrunn Palace, Salzburg Fortress (including round-trip funicular), Mozart's Residence, Mozart's Birthplace, Mönchsberg Lift, Salzburg Residenz, especially the museum in the Residenz is fantastic and you can easily spend 2-3 hours there, definitely don't miss it!

My recent trip to Salzburg using the Salzburg Card was a delight! This charming Austrian city, nestled against the Alps, blends history, culture, and natural beauty seamlessly. Wandering the UNESCO-listed Old Town, I was captivated by the baroque architecture, especially the stunning Salzburg Cathedral and the lively Getreidegasse, buzzing with shops and Mozart’s birthplace. The Hohensalzburg Fortress, perched above, offered breathtaking views and a glimpse into medieval life. A highlight was a day trip to nearby Hallstatt, a fairytale village by a serene lake, easily reached by train. The local cuisine—crisp schnitzel and warm strudel—was a treat, though I learned tipping is just a small round-up for good service. Salzburg’s compact size made exploring effortless, and the blend of “Sound of Music” charm and alpine scenery left me enchanted. I’d return in a heartbeat!

I highly recommend buying the 48-hour Salzburg Card! I used it to visit Mozart's Residence, Mozart's Birthplace, Hellbrunn Palace, the Untersberg cable car, St. Peter's Cemetery and Catacombs, and to take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress to explore its museums. It's incredibly cost-effective and I strongly suggest getting one!

This is good value for the money. we had the 48 hour card and we're able to visit most of the attractions! We decided to claim the card at the Mozartplatz tourist info location instead of going back to the Salzburg Hbf as it is already within the tourist attractions. would definitely purchase again if we are to go back to Salzburg.

This card is very convenient, offering free transportation throughout the city. You can also ride the cable car to Salzburg Fortress without buying a ticket – just scan the card to board. Many attractions offer free entry, saving you from queuing to purchase tickets.

It's very convenient to go from the train station to the "Green i" to exchange for a physical card. You don't need to ask staff any questions about its use. You can visit any museum that requires an admission ticket once. The mountain cable car and boat ride can only be taken once. If you are staying at a partner hotel in Salzburg, you can get a bus QR code for the duration of your stay. Therefore, a 24-hour card is more than enough.

I'm not very familiar with this city, but by following the attractions recommended on this City Card, you can definitely experience all that Salzburg has to offer. The best part is that with this card, public transportation and most attractions are free!

If you're staying in Salzburg for more than a day, you absolutely need to buy this card! You can combine it with a mobility ticket to maximize its duration. When the weather is good, be sure to take a ride on the Untersberg cable car (use the mobility ticket to get there first). You can directly scan your Salzburg Card at the ticket entrance, no need to exchange it for another ticket. You'll see different vegetation as the cable car ascends. We encountered a whiteout due to bad weather on our trip, but I saw photos from friends who went on a clear day, and it was truly stunning. After the cable car, you can take the same bus to Hellbrunn Palace. A guided tour and a stroll around will take about 2-3 hours. After seeing it, you'll be amazed by the wisdom and creativity of our predecessors (?). After returning to the city center, you can choose to visit Mozart's birthplace, residence, or other attractions according to your preferences. I personally recommend taking the Salzburg Fortress funicular up to the fortress in the evening. You can see Salzburg under the setting sun. The fortress has many rich and diverse exhibits, and you can easily spend 2 hours or more wandering around inside.
