Visit one of south China’s most celebrated water towns, Tongli, famous for its sprawling network of ancient stone bridges, tranquil canals, and Ming and Qing era house complexes. This dreamy and picturesque water town originated from the Song Dynasty more than 1000 years ago, but was mainly built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, being an important trade town during that time. A leisurely trip from the town will allow you to explore the beautiful place, and experience its rich, historical canalside atmosphere and weather beaten charm. You can visit the Tuisi Garden, which was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 2011. Jiayin Hall is a must-see as well, known for its more than a hundred well preserved wood carvings of traditional figures from Chinese classics. Some other places you can explore are the Pearl Tower, Songshiwu Garden, Chongben Hall, Gengletang, and Luoxingzhou. This activity is perfect for first-time Suzhou visitors.
